Holme Grove Barkehman

The Holme Grove Stud of Barbara Watkiss with about 20 broodmares is on of the most important Studs for the Trakehner Horses not only in England.  They had to take leave of Barkehman this year.  The 20 year old daughter of Flaneur became one of the most successful broodmares of the British island.  Bred in Germany by G. Broszies out of a part TB mother by Herzkönig.  This noble and harmonious black mare left Germany at 3 years old and came to England.  She had 13 foals in 15 brood years.  She brought some daughters who made this small family bigger again.  Two of her foals have been Champion in the English Trakehner Show.  At Holme Grove they always wanted to make sure about this motherline, so they also kept two daughters in their breed, however after Barkehman’s oldest daughter Holme Grove Ballerina by Istanbul also died after having internal bleeding all the hope now lives on the other daughter, the very beautiful Holme Grove Barbarella by Holme Grove Solomon.  Also her full sister Holme Grove Berzelia, born this year and one of the most impressive daughters of her mother, they should carry on with the success of their mother in the breed.

With a couple of youngsters by Prokofiev out of Barkehman’s family, Barbara’s daughter Julia Wetton, the successful dressage rider, keeps some very promising horses for the dressage sport so that also on this side Barkehman’s heritage gets well presented.
